The story continues this week from Brazil.
Maggie questions Thadeus about his vague reference to his research. It has her curious mind working overtime.
I used a postcard that my mom brought home from Brazil in 1968.
She traveled around South America for a week and a half visiting Brazil, Columbia and Peru.
She traveled around South America for a week and a half visiting Brazil, Columbia and Peru.
The stamp is from the early 1900's.
I have an old ledger book full of stamps from that era.
Nothing valuable...just interesting.
Since the stamp had part of a postmark on it I tried to recreate the rest of the mark. I think it turned out pretty well.
I've also figured out how I'm going to put my book together that will hold each of the postcards and complete the story. Unfortunately, I need my sewing machine for that part and it is currently in the shop for a tune-up. I was mildly scolded by the gal at the sewing center when I confessed that my 25 yr old machine had never been serviced. I also ordered a free-motion quilting foot for my machine and the gal told me she'd show me how to use it when I picked up my machine! Horray! New skills....
What a wonderful postcard. I love authenticity and this one is quite authentic. And that postmark is great, too.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are getting a free motion foot. I'm super duper jealous, now! GREAT new skills. YEA.
Wow well done for keeping your postcard for so long. A xx
ReplyDeleteLovely piece of history for the postacrd challenge.
ReplyDeleteYou do know you're entering dangerous territory buying a free motion foot??!! can't wait to see what you come up with??
One service in 25yrs well? I'd say that reflects the good quality of your machine, it hasn't needed it until now! Mx
What a great way to incorporate post cards you already have. I love the story that is unfolding.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing to have the "real thing" to work with, and you have done a marvellous job with the postmark :D XXX
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic that you have both a card and stamp from Brazil. You need a sewing machine for your posttcard holder........ Intriguing. I got a book for Christmas called Sew Wild which has free motion sewing in it, I plan to play at some point....
ReplyDeleteLove the authentic postcard.
ReplyDeleteSuper postcard! Great to have the authentic thing.
ReplyDeleteJanet xx
how fabulous that you could use an old postcard, and I love that you recreated the other half of the postmark.
ReplyDeleteit's the dog feeds that need to retract on your machine/be covered by a darning plate to be able to do free hand sewing - go see Jo (http://jozartdesigns.blogspot.com) leave a comment and tell her I sent you, you won't regret it... - she set my machine up for me and will give you top tips so you could do amazing things...love your card and story, I would love to see your book when is it stitched.

ReplyDeletewhat a great trip that must have been...left over postcards often mean 'having too much fun to write' ;)
bet you almost made the gal at the sewing shop faint with that bit of news
one sewing repair guy told me machines are like cars ... you need to take them for a spin at least weekly...they need oil and cleaning etc etc ;)
wonder what our machine guy will say when he sees my Mutti's Pfaff :)
