I've been doing more sewing lately than art! Some might argue that sewing is an art form itself but it just feels a bit like work to me. I love to see the end result but I hate the pesky things like measuring, pinning, hand stitching. You get the picture. These are the 2 items I completed today. I'm pretty sure my kiddo won't see my blog so I feel this is safe to share. It's a pillow I made from a t-shirt I bought that likely wouldn't have fit him until he has outgrown his Mario obsession...one can only hope.
The other is a set of placemats for our kitchen table. We are trying to save it from some of the abuse it gets...it's only 3 years old and already has that "distressed look".

Mixed-media canvas
Here's my latest mixed-media piece on an 8x8 gallery edge canvas. The cylindrical hanging bead is one of my handmade paper beads.
Thanks for looking!

Skirt purse
I fixed up this cute little purse yesterday as well. The skirt had attatched shorts under it for modesty. All I had to do was sew the leg holes shut. I threw in a little cotton lace trim for the unexpected.

Frugal pants fix
My little girl came home with a hole in the knee of her FAVORITE pants. She was nearly heartbroke. I've been telling her that they were getting too short so we'd have to hand them down anyway. I decided to patch the knee with a cute pink square to salvage them for a few more wearings. She got so many complements on my silly little patch job that it I got to thinking, if I sewed a ruffle on the bottom that we could make them last at least until summer. I didn't have to go buy anything...everything came from my stash of seldom used fabric and notions.

Almost finished...
I feel like the painting is a little weighty on the left. I need to balance it somehow. I'm going to give it a break for a bit and see what pops into my head.
Next step in painting
The painting is starting to look more like my vision...got to wait for this layer to dry. Guess I'll have some lunch.
The start of a painting
I've had this vision of a painting I have wanted to do for a long time so I'm finally taking the plunge. The inspiration came from a TV show set backdrop...I wish I could remember which one.
Last night I grabbed a canvas that had the start of something else on it and began drawing.
I got the wall color blocked in before bed and did the window glass, the brick mortar and the base coat on the table so far today.
I hope to get a little more painting in today but it is VERY cold in the basement and will only get worse as the weekend wears on...we a in a deep freeze for the next few days...highs at aren't expected to reach zero Fahrenheit all weekend and wind chills are -40F and lower.
I'll keep posting my progress...keep in mind this is only the 2nd painting I've ever done. The first was a portrait...I'm pretty sure I covered over it with something else because the eyes were just too scary.

Asian Theme book
I completed my pages for the latest book I received in my current round robin.
The original drawings from the book were hand-painted by me with watercolor crayons. The chopsticks were shorten by breaking then shaping them in a pencil sharpener before a slight bit of whittling and sanding.
The bamboo was drawn then painted by yours truly. The fortune reads "The luck that is ordained for you will be coveted by others"
I've never done any Asian themed art before...at least not consciously. I did do a mixed-media painting a while back that ended up having an Asian flare.

Searching the windows into autism
This is a very powerful piece for me. I had no idea what I had in mind when I sat down to create today. I had this old canvas laying around that I had covered over an unattractive collage with gesso. I grabbed it and started playing. This piece just sort of evolved from things I had laying around. Maybe it was a release for me...we've had some ups and downs lately. Hopefully everything is on the right track again...

Happy New Year...late
Well, here we are, 4 days into the new year and I haven't created a thing yet. I am busy working on household projects. Hopefully this weekend I'll get some time and inspiration.
