Fairy door

I saw a fun challenge and decided to go for it since I haven't worked much with miniatures lately.  I found that I really miss it.

I love making faux stone. It's my favorite technique.

Have a magical day!!

Tag Tuesday on Thursday

When I saw the Tag Tuesday Challenge theme of butterflies this week I was amazed. The night before I'd just created a tag...a shape I rarely use...with a butterfly as the focal image. It was kismet.

Be sure to check out the other participant tags over at Kard Krazy.

With One Image challenge published

Remember a while back I mentioned some of my challenge pieces were chosen for publication?   Well...my complementary issue of Somerset Memories Spring 2010 has arrived!

I couldn't be more thrilled!!

Trust me...I was excited when I got the email saying they had chosen a few pieces back then but I can't even tell you how much more wonderful it is to open the magazine and see your own work on the page.

I'll be sharing all seven pieces I submitted as soon as I get the package back. The pictures I took before sending them off were really poorly lit and kind of fuzzy. Thank goodness Somerset takes their own beautiful photos!

Good news...

quite a while back I sent off a package to Somerset Memories answering one of their challenges.

I heard back from them... They will be publishing 3 of the 7 I sent! Hooray!! Somerset Memories is only published twice a year now so I'll have to wait until April 1st to see it.

Junk mail postcard

Elizabeth
put forth a challenge on ABC in response to a post about reducing waste while still creating art. She challenged us to create 2 pieces of art using junk mail and scraps only.

I dug in the recycle bin and pulled out a toaster waffle box and some junk mail for this piece. I hoping to make another over the weekend. Although it's supposed to be BEAUTIFUL this weekend so I don't know if I'll be spending much time indoors.

I'm a UHU Gluer!!

I made the cut and am one of two new UHU Gluers!

What does that mean, you ask. (I heard you...)
It means I'm part of their design team.

**Doing the happy dance over here.**

I found out yesterday but have been waiting to say anything until my project and step-by-step instructions was posted on the UHU blog.

Thanks so much UHU for issuing the challenge. I'm looking forward to working with UHU for as long as they will have me.

Check it out...I'm a finalist!

I'm very excited to say that I've become a finalist in the UHU "new gluer" challenge.
I fell in love with the UHU Photo Glue stick long ago, so when the call came out for a new "gluer" I was all over that!

Burried Treasure

I missed out on the last collaborative project that Seth put out there but didn't want to miss the boat on this one.

He called for fellow bloggers to look back at their blogs and repost their favorite.

Several blogs I get feeds from are doing this challenge as well. One of the bloggers I admire picked a favorite from each of the years she has blogged. I like that idea so I shall follow her lead.

Bridge construction zone

We've lost our table to eat by, at least until all the glue sets.

Our son's 3rd grade Academic Challenge group has been studying bridges.

This is there homework assignment.

It's made entirely from spaghetti, marshmallows and glue. Other optional materials were toothpicks, scotch tape and paperclips. It had to span 75cm and 15cm in width. It also had to support 3 matchbox cars...as you can see his supports more than that. They also had to keep track of the materials they used because each item had a $ value and the goal was to build a bridge to meet the requirements the least expensively. He's not done reinforcing it yet so we don't have a $ total yet.

UHU glue challenge

My good friend, Elizabeth, in conjunction with UHU glue came up with a fun challenge. Use a sample of UHU glue in an altered art project using a magazine. You can read the full details here.

Since I had a book for a RR I needed to work in I figured I could use it for the challenge. Theme of the book is Beauty. Basically anything you see as beauty in your own mind is game. I've never been on a tropical beach but in my minds eye it would be absolutely beautiful!

New digital challenge

I've been having lots fun playing with the latest theme: Weddings

The couple in the photos are my paternal grandparents. I never knew my grandmother and have no memory of my grandfather as he died when I was under 4.
I've been told that I resemble my grandmother. I don't see it in this photo but there are others that I do see myself in.

I can only enter one. Please help me decide.

Art partner challenge

The other day I got my envelope from Inka Stamps who is sponsoring an Art Partner challenge on "Latest Trends".

Inside was a blank white piece of cardstock, Geisha unmounted rubber stamp and a Friendship knot. The requirement was to use the items provided to create something original.

The screen behind the Geisha took a lot of time as the pieces are hand cut and glued individually. I really can't think of another way that I could have made it look so authentic though.

Recycled Charms

These are for a challenge and swap. They are made from links off and old belt and my handmade paper beads. I can't wait to see what the others players come up with!

PS...thanks to Theresa for the coaster I used for my backdrop. :)

Digital Challenge

This is a Mail Order Brides themed challenge in keeping with the "Women in History" month for
The Latest Trends in Mixed Media Arts Yahoo group.

This digital piece was made in Paint Shop Pro with all of my own ephemera. The woman is my Grandma, the writing are my Grandpa's sermon notes, the kids on horses are my dad and a cousin. The newspaper is from my mom's side as well as the house picture which was a ad for sewing notions.

Just to be clear..Grandma WAS NOT a mailorder bride...don't want to upset any of the realtives. :)

Game piece charms

I've made 2 sets of charms for a challenge on TheLatestTrendsinMixedMediaArts. I'm hoping I'll be able to swap both sets. You can only have 1 entry for the vote so I'll have to choose. I didn't realize this when I uploaded the pix to the group...opps.

I could use some help deciding which to enter for the vote.... Dice or Bingo?

Recycle Man

Alright...I met the challenge head on and created this little guy from bits and pieces of trash that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. He's not the cutest, sweetest guy around but he certainly carries a great message.

Happy Earth Day!

I am a huge recycler! I learned it from my dad. He was a depression era baby so everything was precious. He was always dragging something home that was destined for the dump. The house I grew up in and our cabin both had stairs leading down from the outside decks that were the stairs in the stands from old Met Stadium. Dad took as much as he could haul and store. I don't know if the present owners of either place even know where their outdoor stairs came from but it makes me happy to know that dad did his part in saving some history.

A dear friend of mine whose birthday also happens to be today put forth a challenge:

Dr. E wrote "I want to talk a little bit about one of the things that means a LOT
to me: Earth Day, another day we celebrate today. When Earth Day
first started, people who recycled were considered liberals, tree
huggers, and kooks. Composters were arrested in Florida and Colorado
for having eyesores in their yards, and people who wore Berkinstocks
were labeled "odd." I may be a kook, and I may have a compost pile,
but I believe that if you buy something, you do so with a purpose of
using it until it has been used to its fullest potential. That's why
I believe we should use our found objects (anything destined for the
trash) in our art and take our food waste to the compost pile. Let's
celebrate Earth Day by gathering found objects, then making wonderful
art from them.

Therefore, I challenge each of you to make something this week from
one or more found objects."

I'm going to take her up on her challenge and will post my results later this week.
