Card making inspiration

My mom found this card in my dad's room at the nursing home. Due to his dementia, he couldn't tell her who gave it to him or how it had gotten there.

She thought I had made it.
She was positive I had made it since I used to make cards all the time and had just forgotten to sign it. It's a beautiful card but it wasn't me. Although, I do intend to make one of similar style.

It occurred to me that I really would like to give more handmade cards again.
I'm also trying to use some of my scraps. I just can't stand to toss perfectly usable papers into the recycling bin.

Shakespeare paper beads

Since I had The Complete Works of Shakespeare text block left over from my book purse, I figured I better do something with some of those pages.

I'm not as happy with the look of these as some of my previous paper beads. I think having just text with no color variation is kind of boring. I'll likely be going back to magazine pages the next time.

One World, One Heart 2010

****This post will remain on top until Feb. 15th****
***scroll down for newer posts***

Welcome. Glad you grabbed a ticket for the Magic Carpet ride...
I am thrilled to be once again be a part of this international blogger event that is the brain child of Lisa over at A Whimsical Bohemian. The idea was to bring bloggers together, meet new friends, learn something new and maybe even win something!
Last year, I discovered so many interesting blogs that I likely would have never found otherwise.

Up for grabs is this Nature inspired canvas board.
The flower image was created by painting directly onto a Gerbera Daisy then pressing it like a stamp to watercolor paper. The stick was gathered from my own backyard. I love using natural elements especially with my canvas pieces.

On Feb. 15, I will use a random number generator to choose the winner of the canvas board.
But wait...
Since this is my second year participating in the One World, One Heart event I wanted to do things a little bit differently...

For every 50 comments to THIS POST, another prize will magically be added. These additional prizes will be given to the runners up using the random number generator as well.
********
Hooray! 50 comments have been posted...know what that means! Another prize...
The Complete Works of Shakespeare book purse. It features a red interior with black and white sides. It would make quite a conversation piece at your next party.
*******
You guys rock! We're at 99 comments... Since I have a busy day ahead I'm posting the 3rd prize a bit prematurely.
These are 3 of my "postage people" postcards.
********
150 comments posted...another prize has appeared.
Since my book purse has been so popular...
I'm giving away this pants purse!
I made this purse from a pair of children's Tommy Hilfiger pants and a woven belt.
**********
You did it! 200 comments. Another giveaway...
Bottlecap magnets made by yours truly.

So how do I enter you ask...
  • Simply leave a comment on THIS POST to be included in the giveaway.
Please leave your email in the comment. You may want to post it as: blahblah at yaddayadda dot com This way it's more difficult for robot programs to pull emails for spam. If no email is provided either through your blogger profile or in the comment I'll have to move on to the next winner.

Any comment left after Feb. 14 11:59PM CST will not be counted.

Be sure to check out the hundreds of other participant blogs. I bet you'll find some really interesting blogs and maybe win something too!

Silk tie bucket purse

I checked out this book from the library last week and knew I had to make a tie bag.

I had these ties stashed away knowing someday I'd use them.

It took me a couple of hours to put together. I broke a needle on my machine as well in the process. First time I've ever done that!

I learned that I had to manually "walk" the stitching forward by turning it by hand through the thick areas. Such technically accurate terms huh?! I am a trial and error girl. I don't follow directions well. This may be an issue in my quest to learn to knit...

No new art...just snow

There has been no time for art...

I can even begin to tell you how much snow we have moved over the past few days.

See our pathetically short snowman... Buried...

The piles are so high..."How high are they?"....
I can hardly throw the snow over the top anymore. The garbage can may help for reference.

Wine Journal

As soon as I finished Wine 2.0 I just knew it wasn't going to work for me. We've used it a bit anyway since I'd put so much time and effort into the piece.

I'm sure this one is going to work really well for our journal.
It is an old 3-ring binder cookbook with a dozen dividers so we can arrange and rearrange our labels and notes as much as we want.
We even have a "black listed" section for truly awful wines. Ones that under no circumstance do we ever want to have again.
