Foundation

I was inspired to work in a board book today for something different. I started by gluing down random scraps of text from old books. I then brushed on several colors until I was pleased with the background.

I took out this image of my Grandmother, her sisters and parents to use. Wasn't sure what the page would become but wanted to use it none the less.

Here are a couple of close ups of each side.

Beads and sewing

I made some more paper beads this morning. I could make these all day if left to my own devices but that just doesn't happen around here.

I also made up another "busy bag".
I cut a denim slipcover from an old chair for the back and handles. The lining is cut from an old tablecloth that had a couple stains in all the wrong places.
I love recycling!!!!

One World-One Heart 2009

I am so excited to participate in this worldwide blog giveaway extravaganza. This is the 3rd year of the One World-One Heart campaign, but the first year I have taken part. The purpose of this event is to get people exploring others blogs and make new connections.

On Feb. 12, I will use a random number generator to choose the winner of this 4x4 mixed-media canvas.

You must leave a comment on THIS POST to be included in the giveaway. Please leave your email in the comment. You may want to post it as: blahblah at yaddayadda dot com This way it's more difficult for robot programs to pull emails for spam.

Be sure to check out the hundreds of other participant blogs from this list. Who knows, you might find someone really interesting and win something too!

I know that at least 2 of my art friends are also participating.

My day...

I made a couple more "busy bags" this morning after the kids dentist appointment.

Between lunch and another appointment, I took our boy and a neighbor kid sledding to a near by, awesomely big and fast sledding hill. A photographer for the local newspaper was there snapping photos...we'll have to wait and see if our kiddo makes the paper.

Wine 2.0

We found that we wanted to record more info about the wines we've tried than would fit in the previous wine label book. This book is 5.5 x 8.5 twice the size of the old one. This should give plenty of room for details.

I still need to order bigger O-wires for the book but these will do until I get around to it. I also will make dividers to separate the kinds.

It's funny because even as I finish this one I am thinking of Wine 3.0 ...I think the next one will be a 3-ring binder type. Maybe an old cookbook.

Just a reminder...

Ever get tired of saying the same thing over and over.

My husband came up with the idea for the sign.

I used a stand left over from our old Candy Land game.

We'll just have to wait and see how effective it is with our son.

Always a Bridesmaid

The 8x10 canvas board has had several lives, none of them pretty. So I keep covering them up and trying again.

This latest incarnation is in the style of Kelly Rae Roberts, well at least the background technique.

A little love...

Since it's so dang cold here I thought maybe a little love could warm us up! Current temp here is -15 F.

I used mica on the left side of the image...I just know someone was going to ask. :)

The couple in the photo is of my Grandpa and Grandma Hanson circa 1929.

Recycled paper envelopes

While sorting through some stuff I came across an envelope template that I got at a garage sale this summer.

I remembered I had an awesome coffee table book about the Cayman Islands from the free shelf at our local library. Since a multitude of the photos are full page they seemed perfect to try the envelope template out on.

I'm getting the hang of the shape cutter tool(also a garage sale find).

Experimenting with cutouts

I've been wanting to use these circuit board parts for a while but wasn't sure what to pair them with.

I came across this picture in my pile of old photos. The couple just looked so unhappy, as if their life was just some cruel joke.

After putting the back to back pages together I felt as if I really need to say something about them being "behind bars".

The words wrapping around the cutout read:
A prison of their own making. Marriage is what you make it. Make it full of love.

Sweet deal but now what?!?

I happened upon this awesome tray in the 90% off Christmas clearance at Super Target yesterday.

Who can pass it up at that price!

I love the tray but now what do I put in it?

It's 16 inches square and the sides are about 2 inches high.

Any decorators out there?

HELP!

More ATC's

I don't know whats wrong with me but I keep making ATC's. I've always hated working with this size.

The top one was a "happy accident". I was playing around with embossing powders by layering them when I accidentally smudged the still molten EP. I reheated it hoping to smooth it out a bit and decided it looked kind of cool. So then I scraped the cooling but still somewhat molten EP with a credit card. I then reheated it so it would smooth out a bit. The palm tree image is mounted with 3M foam tape.

3 ATC's

I got a chance to play a little more today...

I also have a couple of postcard size substrate with modeling paste drying on them...not sure what the plan is but it will come to me when I sit down.

Chickadee

I played a bit and made this page.

Busy bags

I've been so inspired by the Quilts & ATC's blog. This wonderful woman is sew generous...I had to do it..sorry.

I have a ton of fabric and would love to put it use. I had been searching the web looking for local organizations that accepted small quilts for families in crisis, hospital patients or other charity when my friend, Andrea mentioned that her church was looking to put together some "busy bags" for the small children so use during church services. Their main sticking point was having to buy bags of the appropriate size. It was just meant to be...funny how things work like that. It's also more meaningful to me since our daughter was Baptized in that church.
