I just couldn't wait any longer. I had to unwrap the fabric.
I'm going to leave them to dry in the yard for a little while.

My question now is...do I rinse the fabric or leave it as is? I love the look of it right now but don't want to endanger myself or others if it should be rinsed.

I rusted recently...so I know what you mean about rinsing. Eliazabeth recommend rinsing in soda water and that makes sense to me, so I did. It lightened some. I'm thinking that next time I will leave it to soak longer so there might be more rust before rinsing.....interesting process no matter how it's done.

Beautiful results! I always rinse mine to stop the rusting process. I"ve heard different things work well. Salt water, soda water etc. Otherwise it will eat a hole in the fabric I heard.

I did read that it's a good idea to rinse the fabric and that it will never be archival and may actually keep rusting...hmmmm

Maybe rinse a tiny bit of it - see what happens. I love it just the way it is!!!
I can attest that rust does not come off a linen towel - I once left my cast iron frying pan on top of a white linen towel while it was wet- and the rusty circle left behind on the towel - did NOT come out with regular washing!!!LOL
Yes Halle, you MUST rinse to remove the rust buildup. USE GLOVES when you do. Use a cup of baking soda to a sink full of warm water. You do NOT want to put this in your washing machine, but it won't hurt your sink, which I think is about the size of mine. The final rinse is in cold water.
