Postcard Challenge week 21

After weeks of absence from Darcy's postcard challenge, I have finally found my characters.

Apparently they had been spending some time together in the English countryside.
Their relationship has definitely made some big changes.

Maggie writes:

Thadeus,
The past few weeks have been like a dream. I pinched myself this morning just to make sure. I miss you already. I thought this painting would remind you of our week in the country. The stonewalls. The picnic. The inn.
Hurry back to me....
           Always- Maggie

Ah... the excitement of new love.

This weeks page is pretty simple. Aged papers and doily scraps.

Postcard Challenge week 13

After having to take a couple weeks off from Darcy's challenge, I'm back with my...or shall we say...Maggie's postcard and page.

Maggie continues to send her drawings or paintings to Thadeus.

She writes:
Thadeus-
Please let me know that you are alright. You haven't responded to the letter I sent from my Aunt's home. I had to skip my adventure to The Netherlands to care for the poor dear after her fall.
I am having a wonderful cup of coffee here in Istanbul. Next I am off to explore the Grand Market. I know it will be a feast for the senses.
  Please write.       Warmly- Maggie

So that's why there was no postcard from the Netherlands.
*wink*

My page has a small "mug rug" and some stained shipping tags. Maggie must have found some fun things to send home at the Grand Bazaar.

The pocket is from a chunk of altered fabric given to me by Belinda Spiwak years ago. I think it adds just the right pop of color and texture.

Postcard Challenge week 1

Yesterday, I sat down with my idea book and planned out my story.
I have my characters names, addresses, professions and a rough outline of how I intend for the book of postcards to come together.
Of course, this morning I had a few different ideas about the eventual book will unfold but that's ok.

The first week's country was Austria.  I decided to use a countryside setting for my postcard.
Pretty simple watercolor painting. Hopefully my skill will improve over time.

On the back Maggie writes her first note to Thadeus.

I didn't have any stamps from Austria nor did I take the time to download any collage sheets.
I took a National Wildlife Federation sticker and cut it down to serve as my stamp.
Works for me.

Watercolor cartoon

A friend of ours turns 50 today...his party was actually yesterday. We had planned on attending but several circumstances made it impossible.
The birthday boy is an avid hunter. My hubby came up with the idea and caption then I went for it with
the drawing and paint.
Considering my drawing skill or lack there of...
I think it turned out pretty well.
It's supposed to be kind of cartoon-y in case you were wondering.  :-)

The caption inside the card reads:
"When you're over the hill, catching Z's is easier
than climbing trees"

I'll be mailing this card on Monday.

Walercolor Haiku

While watching my new obsession on Netflix...Mad Men...I painted this little fall scene.

I added the Haiku this morning.

What do you think?

Joy of Painting ATC swap

A relative of my mother-in-law is hosting an ATC swap that is right up my alley.

I love painting!

The swap is 3 for 3. Not being able to settle on watercolors or acrylics, I did a set of each.

Asian Theme book

I completed my pages for the latest book I received in my current round robin.

The original drawings from the book were hand-painted by me with watercolor crayons. The chopsticks were shorten by breaking then shaping them in a pencil sharpener before a slight bit of whittling and sanding.

The bamboo was drawn then painted by yours truly. The fortune reads "The luck that is ordained for you will be coveted by others"

I've never done any Asian themed art before...at least not consciously. I did do a mixed-media painting a while back that ended up having an Asian flare.

Illustration Friday: Horizon

When I saw the Illustration Friday theme: Horizon, I immediately thought of this altered CD that is part of my perpetual calendar. It was painted with a children's watercolor set on standard card stock.

2nd watercolor for IF

Other thought on my paradise. Peace and quiet, kickin' back with cocktail in hand.

Illustration Friday: Your Paradise

This is my first post for Illustration Friday. Being near the mountains makes me so happy...can't wait for my next visit. Medium is watercolor painting on cardstock adhered to a CD.
I've always admired Marci Senders ability to come up with an image for the theme each week finally decided to give it a shot myself.

Second thought on my paradise.
